Standard Block Mounting
Sometimes referred to as box framing, block mounting is the pasting of prints to hardboard and placed onto a hardwood “box”, the sides of which are painted either black or white to complement the print, and allowing the print to visually stand away from the wall. Although not ‘framing’ in the true sense, it is nevertheless an attractive and economical way of displaying prints and posters. For added protection of the print surface, the print can be laminated before block mounting.
A new and ‘classier’ way of block mounting is to “frame block mount”, using an economical black frame to edge the block, giving a more ‘upmarket’ look to the conventional block mount. This type of block mount can also have an acetate overlay placed over the print to protect the surface.
